Camp Monarch- Recreation Director
Compensation: $19 per hour
Employment Type: Seasonal (8 weeks)
Position Overview: Camp Monarch is a small therapeutic day camp dedicated to serving youth in therapeutic foster care with Creative Community Services.
Creative Community Services (CCS) has been improving the quality of life for children, teens and adults with developmental disabilities and mental health needs, and their families, for over 40 years. CCS is seeking a dynamic new team member who shares this mission to join our team of camp staff at Camp Monarch. Camp Monarch serves youth with developmental disabilities and/or a mental health diagnosis that makes it difficult for them to be successful in a traditional day camp. The Recreation Director will work as part of a team to design and implement recreation activities that support the behavioral needs of youth in therapeutic foster care during their day at Camp Monarch. As a Recreation Director, you will play a pivotal role in creating a supportive and engaging environment for children aged 5-21. This unique opportunity requires individuals who are at least 20 years old and have experience working with children who have special needs. Your primary responsibility will be to facilitate a safe, inclusive, and enriching summer camp experience for children facing diverse challenges.

Responsibilities:
- Supervision and Support:
- Provide continuous supervision and support to campers throughout daily activities.
- Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages social interaction and personal growth.
- Activity Planning and Implementation:
- Design and execute developmentally appropriate activities, games, and workshops tailored to the specific needs and interests of each child. The Recreation Director will be responsible for planning one group activity for each age group daily.
- Collaborate with the camp team to develop a diverse and engaging program schedule.
- Individualized Care:
- Work closely with children in foster care, recognizing and addressing their unique emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs.
- Provide one-on-one support for campers requiring additional assistance.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Maintain open communication with fellow camp counselors, camp leadership, and parents/guardians.
- Collaborate with other staff members to create a cohesive and supportive team environment.
- Safety and Emergency Procedures:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times.
- Be familiar with and adhere to camp safety policies and emergency procedures.
- Crisis Intervention:
- Respond calmly and effectively to any behavioral or emotional challenges that may arise.
- Follow established protocols for crisis intervention, seeking guidance from camp leadership when necessary.
- Documentation:
- Keep accurate records of camper progress, incidents, and achievements.
- Prepare and submit timesheets and mileage as required.
Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 20 years old.
- Experience working with children who have special needs, preferably in a camp or recreational setting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with special needs.
- Ability to adapt to various situations and think creatively to solve problems.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain before the start of the camp).
Duration: This is a seasonal position for the duration of the summer camp program.
